Differences between German & English - Part 3

Verb is always second

German does not slack off on word order the way English does. With the exception of instructions, every phrase starts with a conjugated verb as the second word. The sentence ends with every additional verb. Because of this, it is simple to determine a sentence’s action at first, and to figure out the rest later. This does make it a little more difficult to know what to do when you are speaking.

Usage of Articles

There are circumstances in which you won’t require an article. When you first start learning nouns and are unsure about which gender to use, you will appreciate this. You don’t require the article when talking about a profession, country, or a person’s identity.
